What is a landing Page?

Basically a landing page is a single page with a highly specific target: which is to get visitors to click through to your end goal, which might be clicking a button or entering their contact details.

If you ask marketers who use wordpress to build their landing pages they will tell you they pay for a different page builder tool but on wix you get that for free.

If you’ve never heard of Wix, you may be wondering what it is.

Wix is an online website builder that enables you to build different types of pages. It’s great for individuals, social media influencers like youtubers bloggers, and small businesses.

It is free to sign up with Wix and start using it. The basic account allows you to create a site or landing pages for your business. For serious, business-minded people, you’ll want to opt for a premium account.

So how do you create a landing page with wix

Building a landing page on Wix, can easily become overwhelming if you are just starting out on the platform

and one of the best ways to ensure that you follow best practices is to use a template designed by the best in the business: Wix.

Lets now look at how to use a landing page template on wix to customize to an effective landing page that will help build your email list

First things first, you need to create a free account with Wix and confirm your email address before you can get started.

After creating your account, you want to login and Click on the ” Create New Site” button and from these options you want to choose others since landing pages is not an option here.

Next is choosing to Create Your Website with the Wix Editor

Here you want to Select “Landing Pages” from the bottom of the left-hand menu and then on “Coming Soon” or “Promotional Page,” depending on the type of landing page you want to create.

Alternatively, you can choose the “Blank Template” option if you’d like to build your landing page from scratch.

In this example I will go with the promotional page option

Then you want to Select the design that’s the closest to the page design you want to achieve

Hover your mouse over the template you will like to use and click “Edit.” You’ll then be taken to the Wix Editor screen.

Now you have to Keep in mind that landing pages typically do not have a header or footer, landing pages do not display the traditional navigational elements you will find on a normal site.

This being the case, in order for a visitor to navigate away from the landing page, you will need to add a button or hyperlink that can direct users to wherever you want them to go.

To get rid of the header or footer click on the the Menu & pages tab and then on the three little dots next to home and select setting from the options that appear.

Here you want to select the Layout tab and then you will see the options to either select “Standard” or “No Header & Footer.” You want to go with the “No Header & Footer”

As you can see the header and footer of this landing page have been removed

Now you can start customizing the landing page template by Simply clicking on any element of your landing page to adapt it to the look and feel that you wants to achieve.

For instance, when you click on this text, i can chose to delete it completely or edit it.

If you choose to edit it A box will pop up where you can change the font, color, and size, amongst other options.

If you want to customize any image, again just click on it in the same way, and choose to delete it or “Change the Image,”

If you chose to change the image you’ll be taken to this page where you can upload your own images, select free images available on Wix, or purchase ones from Shutterstock.

If you don’t like where a certain element is placed? No problem—you can simply click it, drag it, and drop it to wherever you like.

The features on the left-hand side navigation bar will help you to perform a variety of functions.

Lets quickly go through and see what each of these features do

The menu & page tab will help you set the page settings, If you use wix to build a regular website with multiple pages, you can easily navigate from page to page using this tool

The Background tabs is how you can adjust your background in terms of theme or color; like I already mentioned before you can also choose from the Wix gallery of images if you want to opt for a design that’s a little more advanced

The Add tab button allows you to add a wide range of features and multimedia to your page, such as text, images, videos, contact forms, social media buttons, and more

The Wix Apps Market will help you find a whole host of professional tools that you can place into your landing page, many of which can be added for free, including everything from customer reviews to social media feeds and live chat

At any point if you need help with anything at all, just click on the help tab here and ask for help from the Support Team

Lets now look at how to customize the Wix Forms which you can use collect information from your landing page visitors

To add your opt-in form, first delete the wix form individaul elements since we will be adding these elements using another tool.

Now that you have a the elements deleted you want to click on the ‘+ Add’ tab from the left-hand side menu, go all of the way down and click on ‘More’, and drag-and-drop the ‘HTML code’ onto your page. A grey box will appear.

Click on ‘Enter Code’ and select the code option then paste the code from your chosen Autoresponder

If you don’t know what autoresponders are or how to create the code you need to use here make sure to check the video on making a landing page with mailchimp which is one of many free autoresponders you can use.

Once you’re happy with the design of your landing page and you’ve optimized it for desktop performance, you can then click the mobile phone icon here and it will enable you to switch the mode so that you can edit your page for mobile view.

Wix has made this process incredibly user-friendly, and will walk you through decisions such as: what happens to your header (if you have one) as users scroll, where your quick action buttons (e.g., call, email, social media) are positioned, whether you want to include a “back to top” button, etc

On the left-hand side navigation bar here, you’ll see the “Page Layout Optimizer.” tab. By selecting this option, you can opt for Wix to make all of the recommended adjustments for mobile viewing for you. Pretty awesome, right?

Once you’ve optimize your landing page for both desktop and mobile devices, you can then preview it using the button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Then click “Publish” to make it live.

With a free account, Wix will provide you with a domain name like https://username.wixsite.com/mysite, and allow you to customize the “mysite” suffix.

It’s possible to connect this domain to an existing website, however, you will have to pay for a Wix premium plan.
