By default the YouTube Channel URLs is a string of numbers and letters which is clearly difficult for any human to remember. Its for that reason that your default channel link or URL isn’t the best type of link to be presented to your channel viewers.
Instead, a custom channel link like this https://www.youtube.com/channel/YourChannelName is easy to read and represents a channel properly.
In this post, I am going to walk you through how to create custom URL links for your youtube channel
Now for your channel to qualify for a custom URL Your channel need to have at least 100 or more subscribers.
The channel needs to be at least 30 days old after creating it.
And the channel needs to have both uploaded channel art and a photo for your channel icon.
Usually, when your channel reaches all these requirements youtube will send you an email notification, in some cases you will also see a notification in your Creator Studio dashboard.
How to Check if your Channel is Eligible for Custom URL Link
Another way to check if your channel is eligible for custom thumbnails is by looking at the channel settings page under the eligibility feature.
You can get to this page by clicking on the settings tab on your channel studio dashboard and from the pop up that appears select the channel option and then the eligibility feature.
Below you will have the default features like uploading videos on your channel and being able to build playlist.
Now below that you will see other features like uploading Videos longer than 15 minutes , Custom thumbnails and so on, These features here needs an additional requirements like verifying with a phone number
So as you can see if you have all these features marked with a green check mark that means your channel is enabled for a custom URL
Now how do you go about creating your custom URL for your channel?
Well here are some steps you can follow to help you get set up;
First You want to start by clicking through to your channel homepage and then on the customize channel blue button.
On the Channel customisation page you want to click on the Basic Info tab and scroll down a little until you find where it says Channel URL. Under your channel URL, you will see where it says “Set a custom URL for your channel”click on that
After clicking on the “Set a custom URL for your channel Youtube will give two other options.
The first option is simply the current name of your channel or the name of your channel with a suffix of your choosing…basically any additional word.
Personally I will recommend you to choose the first option because you don’t want to create a long link that your viewers and subscribers will not be able to remember.
Now Once channel custom URL has been approved, you can’t request to change it again, so make sure that this is the custom URL that you want before clicking publish to save your settings.
Once you have a custom URL, your audience can reach your channel by using that custom URL, such as youtube.com/yourcustomname, which will take viewers to your channel homepage.
Now it’s also important to take note that You can remove a custom URL for your channel up to 3 times per year.
To claim a new custom URL, you will first need to delete your existing custom URL.
Once removed, the custom URL will be free to be claimed by another youtube creator because In general, a YouTube channel may only have one custom URL.
That’s it! when it comes to creating a custom URL for your youtube channel, and with that I will wrap up this post hope it was helpful
